My Ocean is Wide

Ludwig Riehl was reported born in April 1746. When eight or ten years old his mother sent him to the wharf to sell cookies to sailors on the incoming ships. While selling cookies he was accosted by a man named Kurtz who enticed him onboard a vessel which was about to sail for America. After being taken aboard, the boy pleaded with Kurtz to put him ashore. The man refused. The vessel moved out of the harbor and into the wide ocean, and young Ludwig Riehl was forced to remain onboard.
